Access to the museum is signposted on all main roads in the vicinity of Speyer.

The nearest car park is Festplatz (Navi: Festplatz/Geibstraße). From there it is only a few minutes' walk to the cathedral square/museum.

The Festplatz is occasionally used as an event site, please inform yourself about the current situation and possible parking alternatives, for example on the website of the city of Speyer.

Please note: From the end of July 2025, the B39 between the junction "Speyer Zentrum" and "Speyer Industriestraße" will be renovated and completely closed. Further information can be found on the website of the city of Speyer.

From Speyer main station/station forecourt: Bus 561 to the Domplatz/Speyer stop.

From Mainz: RE4 to Karlsruhe.
From Mannheim: S3 in the direction of Germersheim/Karlsruhe or S4 to Bruchsal.
From Karlsruhe: S3 direction Germersheim/Mannheim or RE4 to Speyer.

Parking: Domplatz, only about 50 metres from the museum.

Nextbike hire and return stations are located opposite Speyer's main railway station and on Domplatz.

By public transport

From Speyer main station/stop "Bahnhofsvorplatz": Bus 561 to the stop "Domplatz/Speyer".

Car parks

Große Pfaffengasse (directly at the museum): three parking spaces for people with disabilities.

Alternative: Festplatz/Speyer (200 metres to the museum).

Please note: The fairground is a hard-sand area, which is usually easy to drive on, but depending on the weather can mean difficult conditions for wheelchairs and pushchairs. In this case, the car parks in Große Pfaffengasse are preferable.

Museum entrance

If you are standing in front of the museum, the stepless entrance is on the left-hand side of the museum building. Signs indicate the direction. There is a bell at the side entrance, our staff will be happy to open the door for you and accompany you to the museum ticket office and the exhibition rooms.

Exhibition rooms

All exhibition rooms are accessible without steps. The exception is the last two rooms in the left wing of the wine museum, which cannot be remodelled due to the preservation order. We ask for your understanding.

Wheelchairs and folding chairs can be borrowed from us.
The WC for people with disabilities is located on the ground floor by the lockers.

Access with certified assistance dogs is permitted to all areas of the museum if they are appropriately labelled. Please bring appropriate identification with you.

Admission

People with disabilities whose disability pass shows the "B" or "H" mark may take an accompanying person with them free of charge.

Please do not take any food or drink into the exhibition area. Ask the service staff about our picnic area, where you can eat food you have brought with you.

Photographs may be taken in our collections for private purposes - without flash or tripod.

Please note the information on photography in our special exhibitions on the pages for the respective exhibitions under the menu item "Special exhibitions". As the objects on display are often subject to special protection, each exhibition has its own guidelines. If in doubt, please speak to the supervisors on site.

Photography for commercial and scientific purposes always requires written authorisation from Media and Public Relations of the Historical Museum of the Palatinate.

We would like to point out that the publication of photographs on the Internet and in social media does not constitute private use and may violate personal rights.

Please follow the signs in the museum to the cloakroom and lockers.

Do not take any bulky or wet items such as umbrellas, rainwear, rucksacks and carrier bags into the exhibition rooms in accordance with the house rules. These items must be deposited in the locker or cloakroom (deposit: 1 euro).

Carrier bags larger than DIN A3 (approx. 30 x 42 cm) must also be deposited in the locker.
