The gruffelo - the exhibition

A Family Exhibition from the Young Person’s Museum of Speyer

From December 22nd 2019 to June 14th 2020

The Grufallo – the terrible monster with orange eyes, purple prickels over his back and dangerous teeth – has had his 20th birthday this year! The JUMUS, the young people’s museum of Speyer, is also celebrating its 20th anniversary. That’s why its next large family exhibition starting on December 22nd is devoted to the children’s book “The Grufallo”. It was written in 1999 by Julia Donaldson in imaginative verses and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. The exhibition retells the famous story of the monster and the clever little mouse, which is still very popular.

Children can experience the world of the Grufallo, the forest with its animals and rivers, big rocks and caves, its trees and plants. Interactive stations within the exhibition are fun and open for little explorers. At the same time, illustrator Axel Scheffler will be acknowledged within the exhibition space of 400 square meters. Original graphics give an insight into the diversity of his oeuvre and demonstrate his creative working process.

Please be aware that the exhibition does not contain any English translations and is available solely in German.
